The Customs Union is one of the linchpins of the common commercial policy. The other main elements are the common import arrangements and the common protective measures. Together they contribute to ensuring an even competition playing field for European undertakings, giving them access to equal prices for imported raw materials and levelling the quantities and prices of competitor products.
